(I'm describing the symbols but will include pictures if I ever get around to it.)
1. Three wavy lines in a square.
2. Three triangles at the top of the square pointing down.
3. Three triangles at the top of a square pointing down at two wavy lines.
4. A small sort of fan shape in a square (Imagine a fan with three blades).
5. A single wavy line over a fan in a square.
6. Three triangles pointing down over the fan.
Okay, ready for the answers??
1. Three wavy lines in a square. Microwave cooking. This was the first one I guessed (and the only one I guessed the function of correctly) before I had the English manual and was relying on the French and German manual I had. "Use this function to cook and heat vegetables, potatoes, rice, fish and meat."
2. Three triangles at the top of the square pointing down. Grill. "Use this function to brown the top of food quickly." Maybe this corresponds to broil? Totally not clear.
3. Three triangles at the top of a square pointing down at two wavy lines. Microwaves+Grill "Use this function to cook lasagne, poultry, roast potatoes, and toasted food." Again, broil? Roast?
4. A small sort of fan shape in a square (Imagine a fan with three blades). Hot-Air. "Use this function to bake food." I did not guess that "hot air" was for baking food on my own. I only remembered that "plats au four" meant "baked" by looking it up in a dictionary.
5. A single wavy line over a fan in a square. Microwave + Hot-Air. "Use this function to rapidly bake the foods." Who knows when I would ever use this. I barely trust the thing to bake, let alone "rapidly bake the foods."
6. Three triangles pointing down over the fan. Grill+Fan. "Use this function to bake evenly the food and at the same time brown their surface."
Apparently the other Europeans think this is totally normal. I am still really, really confused about the functioning of this device. It's made slightly easier by the fact that I have no oven-safe cookware right now (I have bowls and plates I can microwave on, but nothing else). So for now, the "oven rack" is staying in my hall closet, and this is just going to be a giant microwave, until I get brave enough to potentially waste some food.
Wavy lines = microwave
ReplyDeleteTriangles pointing down = broiler element
Fan = convection
So you can do regular oven, convection oven, broil+convection oven, etc.
This is my interpretation based on the above :)
